Wedding styling
The dress is handled. It is everything around the dress that tends to fall apart.
Most brides spend a year on one garment and the last three weeks in a quiet panic about everything else. The rehearsal dinner. The welcome drinks. Getting ready in something that photographs well and is not a novelty robe. The going away outfit. The morning after brunch, when everyone is tired and there are still cameras.
And that is only you. There is also a wedding party who were each told to find their own version of the same color, a mother of the bride who has been agonizing quietly for months, and a partner who will buy a suit the week before if nobody intervenes.
That is the part I do.
What I style
Brides, on everything other than the dress: the rehearsal dinner, welcome party, getting ready looks, the going away outfit, the honeymoon suitcase, and the shower and bachelorette looks that arrive long before the wedding does.
Wedding parties, so the group reads as one considered idea rather than eight people who each interpreted "dusty blue" differently, and so nobody is wearing something they resent for the sake of the photos.
Mothers of the bride and groom, who are often the most anxious people in the process and the least likely to ask for help.
Guests, when the invitation says something unhelpful like festive attire and you have three weddings this summer and one budget.
How it works
We start early if you will let me, because the good version of this is calm and the rushed version is expensive. First a call to understand the weekend, the venue, the weather you are gambling on and the family politics involved. Then a plan for each event, sourced within your budget, tried on with enough runway to alter or exchange.
For wedding parties I can work with everyone individually or hand the group a clear, specific direction so they can shop themselves without a group chat that lasts eleven weeks.
I work in person across Minneapolis and Saint Paul, and virtually for anyone who has moved away but is coming home to get married, which in Minnesota is a lot of people.
The honest reason to do this
Your wedding is the most photographed weekend of your life, and photographs are unforgiving about a look that was assembled in a hurry. It is also, for most people, the most stressful clothing decision they will ever make while doing forty other things. Handing that to someone else is not indulgent. It is the same logic as hiring anyone else on the list.
Common questions
Do you help choose the wedding dress?
I focus on everything around the dress, though I am happy to come to a fitting and give an honest opinion. Where I earn my keep is the eight other looks nobody planned for.
How far in advance should we start?
Three to six months is comfortable. I have done it in three weeks. It is calmer with time and more expensive without it.
Can you style the whole wedding party?
Yes, together or individually, in person or virtually for anyone out of town.
What does bridal styling cost?
Bridal packages start at $500 and go up depending on how many people and how many events are involved. Book a free call and I will give you a real number rather than a range.
