Worse than the dentist

A client once told me that shopping for clothes was, and I quote, "normally less fun than going to the dentist."

I hear a version of this from almost every guy I work with. It's not that they don't care how they look, they care a lot. They just have no interest in spending a Saturday finding out. So they buy the same shirt in four colors, wear it until it dies, and repeat.

Here's the thing: men's styling isn't a different skill. It's the same three questions.

Does it actually fit?

Not "is it my size." Sizes lie. Shoulders should end where your shoulders end. Sleeves break at the wrist. Everything else a tailor can fix for less than the price of the mistake you're about to make.

Is it the brand, or is it the fit?

This is the one that surprises people. Guys assume the label and the price tag make the look. They don't. Fit, plus complementary textures and colors, beats an expensive shirt hanging wrong, every time.

Do you have too many options?

The men I work with are rarely short on clothes. They're drowning in them. One client went from overstuffed closets to a minimalist setup without compromising his style at all. His words afterward: he doesn't even remember what we got rid of.

So we go through everything, honestly. Some of it no longer fits. Some of it is a decade out of date. That's not an insult, it's just time passing.

Then I build outfits from what survives and hand you a short, specific list of what to buy, so the dreaded trip to the mall takes twenty minutes and you know exactly what you're looking for.

You don't have to enjoy shopping. You just have to stop dreading your closet.
